The contract was given for Rs 26 crore in November 2019 and the work was expected to complete within two years. The civic body started repairing bridges at Mahalaxmi, Curry Road and Sion railway stations as well as Tilak bridge in Dadar, Dadar flower market bridge, Mahim railway crossing bridge and Dadar-Dharavi bridge.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) started repairing most of the bridges across the city after the structural audit report in 2018. The administration claims the major cost escalation took place for Mahalaxmi railway bridge where structural audit was pending due to illegal structures. The cost of repairing bridges in Mahalaxmi and Parel has increased by 30 per cent, from Rs 26 crore to Rs 34 crore.
